19/02/12 AFC Brooklands  1-4  Chertsey Town

STRONG PERFORMANCES ALL ROUND, BUT CHERTSEY TAKE THE POINTS

Yet another strong performance from Brooklands, but unfortunately it was not enough against Chertsey Town today. This game was originally scheduled to be played several weeks ago, but due to a frozen pitch it was called off. However, with the sun shining over Thorpe Green, ‘the Oranges’ were hoping for a change in fortune. Things started well for both sides and some great saves by Toby in goal kept the score at 0-0. With not long left of the half, Chertsey took the lead against the run of play after a strong attack involving the former Brooklands play, George Miller. As half-time approached the team’s positions were shuffled around with Toby starting on the right and Aiden, making his Brooklands debut, in defence alongside Alex. With the home side chasing a goal, one-or-two changes came their way, but Chertsey stayed strong. It was Chertsey that got the next goal after a powerful run from the hard working Chertsey central midfielder who finished well. 2-0. Brooklands fought back not long after with a bullet of a free-kick from Mauro, getting his second goal for the club. With Alex and Aiden defending well and Cameron R doing well in goal, it looked like Brooklands might scrape their way back into the game. However, two more Chertsey goals made the challenge even harder and even with Cameron M’s shot being cleared off the line, the full time score was 4-1.

29/01/12 GPR Dons  5-0  AFC Brooklands

HARSH RESULT AS CLINICAL GPR SCORE FIVE

GPR Dons won 5-0 today after another good performance by both sides meant the score was extremely harsh. Both sides started well and created one or two early chances, however as GPR won a corner after Louis made a great save in goal, the home side took the lead with no.7 allowed to volley straight into the net. Brooklands again responded well and came close on a few occasions with the midfield working hard. GPR grabbed two more goals before the break as the dangerous no.10 was instrumental in them both. The second half started slowly but passing and movement was again great from the away side. Impressive build-up play would another day have led to an Orange win. Mauro made some great saves in goal as well in the second half, denying GPR on several occasions. The home side grabbed two more goals to increase their tally to end the game 5-0.

08/01/12 AFC Brooklands  1-4  Yateley Dragons

YATELY SNEAK THE WIN

AFC Brooklands faced a tricky game today against Yateley and despite putting in some great performances, it was the away side that came away with the points. The home side started well putting Yateley under pressure early on, however against the run of play Yateley took the lead after a swift counter-attack led to the opening goal. Just five minute in and Brooklands were unfairly behind. However, ‘the Oranges’ didn’t let this affect them and continued to play their football, a few half-chances for both sides. With time ticking on Brooklands grabbed an equaliser in the last few seconds of the half, Charlotte playing in Mauro to score his first goal for the club. 1-1 at the break.

In the second half, Yateley began with lots of ball possession and created a few chances of their own - one of which they scooped over from four yards out. Yateley then went in front soon after to make it 2-1. Not out of it yet, Brooklands created several chances with Colm, Finn and Mauro all going close. Unfortunately two more goals from Yateley made it 4-1, certainly not a true reflection of the game.

11/12/11 AFC Brooklands  1-3  Milford Pumas Wanderers

MILFORD THROUGH AFTER A BATTLING BROOKLANDS PERFORMANCE

AFC Brooklands put in a battling performance against Milford Pumas today, despite bowing out of the plate. Both sides started reasonably well with half chances were created. However, as was the story against Milford away in November, Brooklands conceded their opener from a corner. A swinging ball into the area led to a flick into the Brooklands net. Milford then struck again soon after, struggling to clear the ball from defence, leading to a superb strike from outside the box by Milford. 2-0 down, but the home side did not give up hope. Just as Milford had done, AFC put a good ball into the area from a corner and with Finn flicking the ball goalwards, Milford fumbled it into their own net. 2-1 at the break. With Cameron R continuing valiantly in goal, he made several good stops – in both halves – to deny Milford on numerous occasions. However, with the home side gaining momentum, they were unfortunately further pegged back soon after when Cameron made a great save (although he might not have known much about it!) which led to a Milford tap-in. ‘The Oranges’ battled on in an effort to get back into the game (some of you have battle scars to prove it!); however, Milford stopped all hope with some gritty defending. 3-1 it finished.

04/12/11 AFC Brooklands  1-6  Woking Town Yellows

WOKING TAKE THE POINTS

In a repeat of last week’s encounter, Woking Town once again played AFC Brooklands – and took the points. Brooklands started in an unfamiliar 3-2-1 formation with Cameron R backed up by Louis and Colm in defence who all performed extremely well in the opening stages. Patience was the key today, and whilst defending, Brooklands watched Woking miss chances early on. However, against the run of play Woking went in front – perhaps unfairly. Despite the goal ‘the Oranges’ continued to attack with Charlotte winning the ball time and time again in midfield to set up an attack. Woking got their second and third goals near the end of the half, leaving the score at 3-0 at the break. The score was certainly not a true reflection of proceedings, with Cameron M making some excellent saves in goal. The second half started in a similar way to the first with Brooklands making several changes and playing numerous players out of position. However, that didn’t seem to matter with the home side still managing to create chances. Woking scored three more in the second half with Michael grabbing a fine goal for Brooklands. At least ‘the Oranges’ can look on the bright side – they have now played their games with Woking for the season, and can focus on plate football next week!

27/11/11Woking Town Yellows  4-1  AFC Brooklands (2-0 HT)

WOKING SHOW THEIR CLASS

AFC Brooklands put in a battling second half performance today against Woking Town, going down 4-1 to the home side. ‘The Oranges’ started well against ‘the Yellows’ bursting forward on several occasions. The home side took advantage of a break away, the Woking forward finishing well past Cameron M in goal. It was 2-0 shortly after, a rare concentration lapse leaving the home side to smash home their second. However, the second half was a much improved display. Although Woking scored first to make it 3-0, some neat passing moves and chances came Brooklands way. Some neat footwork from Michael, cutting in from the right, left Colm the chance to score at the back post. Game on. AFC continued with great spirit to attempt to get back into the game, even with both Toby and Charlotte doing excellent jobs in their respective un-favoured positions. Woking got a fourth late on, perhaps unfairly, but with Brooklands’ hard work, the return game next Sunday will be an interesting affair.

13/11/11 AFC Brooklands  1-1  Walton Casuals (0-0 HT)

BROOKLANDS BATTLE BACK TO EARN DRAW

AFC Brooklands put in one of their strongest performances of the season today, earning a 1-1 draw against a strong Casuals team. Both sides started strongly and either could have gone in front in the first half. Walton Casuals’ passing and movement was good, showing the home side why they are doing so well in the league this season. Cameron M made a strong save late-on in the half denying the away side the opening goal and keeping the score level at the break.

As the second half came around, Brooklands started to take charge more with some great work put in by new boys Jay and Mauro. However, Walton took full advantage of a speedy counter-attack and scored the opening goal. Just as though it looked to be the Casuals’ day, Brooklands fought back with a great cross from Charlotte met by Michael Pearson who finished off a great move by ‘the Oranges’. 1-1.That seemed to inject a new-found lease of confidence in the team with the home side unlucky not to get a winner in the closing stages. Overall, a fair result for Brooklands against a side in top form.

06/11/11 Milford Pumas Wanderers  3-1  AFC Brooklands (2-0 HT)

MILFORD VICTORIOUS AFTER TIGHT GAME

AFC Brooklands under 9s kept up their recent impressive performances today, and despite defeat are an improving side. After a long journey, the away side started strongly, putting pressure on their opponents and had several half-chances early on to take the lead. However, Milford defended very well and stayed strong. It was the home side that took the lead shortly after when a corner came fizzing in from the left and was buried into the corner of the goal. 1-0. It didn’t take too long for Milford to get their second. Against the run of play they took advantage of another good cross into the area. 2-0 it stayed until half-time.

The second-half continue much the same as the first, with Brooklands matching Milford pass-for-pass and tackle-for-tackle. Again, the away side a few chances of which the Milford goalie did very well to save – it looked as though today wasn’t going to be Brooklands’ day. After Milford got their third it seemed as though the game was over, but Brooklands continued to battle on and got a goal back courtesy of Jack Murray – his first of the season. A comeback perhaps? Almost. Brooklands had a few more sights of goal in the latter stages, but were unable to break the Milford deadlock. 3-1 it ended.

23/10/11 AFC Brooklands  1-1  Hersham (1-1 HT)

WELL EARNED POINT

AFC Brooklands produced one of their best performances of the season today in an end-to-end game which ended 1-1. AFC started the stronger out of the two sides and had a few sights of goal early on – Louis and Michael amongst others going close. ‘The Oranges’ even took the lead when as the Hersham goalkeeper attempted a clearance, Michael Pearson managed to nip-in and score from close range. Hersham had their chances too, and with a tall side managed to take advantage of this, particularly from corners. It was from a corner that Hersham levelled; Cameron R unluckily directing the ball towards goal. Cameron Makin sprung to make a save but the ball had already crossed the line. 1-1. Cameron M made some great saves, including a one-on-one with the dangerous Hersham no.10.

The second half continued in the same pattern as the first with both sides going close. AFC continued to work hard despite injuries to Jack and also Toby, who managed some brave saves in goal. Overall, a pleasing result earned by the hard work of the whole team. Hopefully, a sign of positive future results to come.

16/10/11 AFC Brooklands  1-3  Yateley Dragons (1-0 HT) – CUP

LUCKY YATELY SCRAPE THROUGH

In the second game between the two sides already this season, Yateley managed to progress to the next stage in the cup, meaning Brooklands head to the plate.

However, it was certainly not plain sailing for the away side with Brooklands dominating the first half. Some outstanding interplay between the forwards was particularly pleasing, allowing Finn to grab a goal and put ‘the Oranges’ 1-0 up.

Brooklands might even have increased their lead with both Finn and Jack going close, but Yateley managed to hold on.

The second half continued in much the same as the first with Brooklands again producing some good football. However, as tiredness once again crept in, Yateley managed to get an equaliser with a strong shot into the corner of the goal.

At 1-1 the game was still rather even, however one cross from Yateley managed to loop up and fly over everyone – including Cameron R in goal - to put the away side in front for the first time. Another goal from Yateley made the full-time score 3-1.

Man-of-the-match: Now I know why Toby begs to play up front every week. His performance in the latter stages of the first half was outstanding and his control and also decision making was very impressive today.

09/10/11 AFC Brooklands  1-3  GPR Dons (1-1 HT)

TIGHT GAME ENDS WITH DONS GRABBING THE POINTS

AFC Brooklands entertained GPR Dons at home today, which ended with some nice football played by both sides, and a 3-1 win for GPR.

With ‘the Oranges’ controlling the opening exchanges, the GPR goalkeeper made some fine saves to deny Brooklands from taking the lead. Both sides missed great opportunities to go ahead, with the Dons taking the lead shortly after.

A good run down the Brooklands right from GPR’s no.10 ended with a firm shot which headed past the unlucky Cameron R in goal.

However, Brooklands fought back and got back on level terms before half-time with a goal from Michael, his fifth goal of the season. 1-1.

With changes made at the break, GPR started to take control of the game and once again took the lead. Brooklands tried hard to get back into the match with Charlotte’s free-kick going close.

However, GPR got a third midway through the second period of the game, the dangerous no.10 once again on the score sheet. Overall, not the result that Brooklands would have wanted, but certainly ‘the Oranges’ are moving in the right direction.

25/09/11 Chertsey Town  4-3  AFC Brooklands

LAST MINUTE WINNER

The AFC Brooklands Under 9s lost their first game of the season today after a tight encounter against Chertsey Town.

The game was 50-50 from start to finish and even Brooklands surprised themselves by getting the first goal, a great turn and shot by the impressive Michael.

It was 2-0 shortly after when as AFC made a great counter-attack, the Chertsey goalie fouled an Orange attacker with the referee pointing to the spot despite the ball finding its way into the net. With a few seconds of everyone looking at each other, the referee gave the goal!

Soon after, Finn got on the score sheet – his third goal of the season – after ending another great move from the away side. An impressive end to the half with the score at 3-0.

The second half started much like the first with both sides having their chances, but it was Chertsey that got back into the game with a goal of their own – 3-1.

With Toby making some splendid saves in goal for Brooklands, he could do nothing about the next Chertsey goal. Hope perhaps for the home side? Two more Chertsey goals followed as Brooklands desperately tried to get their way back into the match. 4-3 the final score, but in truth, in terms of effort and commitment, both sides deserved 3 points from the game.

18/09 Yateley Dragons  0-1  AFC Brooklands (0-1 HT)

SNEAKING A VICTORY

The AFC Brooklands Under 9 team got their first win of the season today against Yateley Dragons, with a 1-0 victory. Throughout the game, both sides had their chances and the game could well have been won by either side.

As it happened, it was ‘the Oranges’ that got the winning goal, just before half-time through Michael Pearson. Before that, Yateley had one or two good chances, Cameron Makin doing well in goal to stop them from going in. On the break, Finn looked dangerous on the left and created several chances for his team mates.

In the second half, with a change of goalkeeper, Jack Murray continued where Cameron had left off with several fine saves of his own to deny Yateley an equaliser. With corners a plenty late-on in the game, the away side stayed resolute and managed to hold on for the win. 4 points from 2 games is certainly an impressive start to the new season.

Man-of-the-match: He was great last week, but Alex Robinson stood out today as being strong, organised and intelligent in his play. A great defensive performance from him was one reason why Yateley failed to score.

11/09 AFC Brooklands  3-3   Abbey Rangers Youth  (2-0 HT)

ABBEY SCRAMBLE TO THREE LATE GOALS

The AFC Brooklands under 9s got their season off to a good start today with a 3-3 draw against a strong Abbey Rangers Youth side.

With just the seven players for AFC, Alex of whom was nursing a knee injury, the result proved to be greater than expected. However, after leading 3-0 for much of the second half, many of ‘the Oranges’ felt they did enough to win the game.

The game started fairly evenly with one or two chances for both sides. However, as the home side made a breakaway, Michael and Finn both eagerly stretched out to turn the ball in, the last touch coming off Finn. Abbey tried to respond minutes later but their shot went just wide of Cameron’s goal.

However, Michael got his goal soon after, a fine finish into the far left of the goal past the Abbey Rangers goalkeeper. Half time it was with AFC leading 2-0.

The second half continued similarly to the first, with the home side exerting more pressure on Abbey. This culminated in a third goal for the oranges, scored by Finn Mitchell. With substitutes not an option for Brooklands, the same seven had to soldier on and tiredness played its part in Abbeys goals. The away side responded with three goals all in the last ten minutes to deny Brooklands a first win on the opening game of the season. Overall, an enjoyable game and much to look forward to for the remainder of the season.
