Fleet Town Vulcans 1 AFC Brooklands 4

A stunning away win in windy Hampshire enables the team to extend its little winning run to three! Playing a good side in Fleet, whom we drew 0-0 with earlier in the season. With a sloping pitch, strong wind and dazzling sunshine, we took the goals at the top end of the pitch, as this was out downfall in our draw away to Molesey earlier in the season. Looking to seek advantage of all of the conditions! As asked at the start of the game the boys did exactly what was asked of them. It was such a delight to see the passing from defence the whole way up the pitch and across when needed! Exciting passing and moving down both flanks! The new look goalkeeping and defence line in Dawson, Johnson and Mansbridge doing well and building play from the back! Goal! 1-0 Silva fires home after a good run, a good passing move from Mansbridge to Johnson to Lucas and Silva does some nice work to slot home! Harper and Nolan come on for Lucas and Munir. Despite a food performance it remained one nil at half time.

The brief at half time again was to work hard in tackling, passing. Brooklands expected a bit of an onslaught as the roles reversed meant that the wind slope and sun were all against us. Lucas back in defence with Mansbridge and Dawson staying in goals the boys were immense, despite some early pressure they were a match for anything! GOAL 2-0, indeed again playing the ball nicely out of defence then Silva took one touch and slotted an inch perfect pass through to Munir whom carried the ball into the box and slotted home nicely 2-0. The boys using their passing ability to punish the space left at the back. More pressure and more resolute defending, and when we had the ball a good passing game was continued. Harper was working away up front and as he hassled, won the ball and broke down the line he was taken down, the ball floated in and it broke to Nolan whom fired a shot in at the near post GOAL 3-0! Fleet did not give up and were rewarded with a stunning goal after some more pressure! A shot from the edge of the area struck with some Venom that Hands of Blue Tack could do nothing about it! Indeed I am not sure that any keeper could have saved it! Goal 3-1! Credit to the Falcons they again stood strong to some chances and then scored again as pressure in the box from a corner that Nolan gained competitive advantage to fire in the fourth with some assistance from a Fleet defender! GOAL 4-1!

The whistle goes and it is another team performance from all the players that warms your heart. Against a good Fleet side and tough conditions the tackling, passing and working for each other was immense and they showed strength and courage when needed. A mention also to a number of players whom played out of position including Dawson, Mansbridge, Lucas, Johnson and Munir on occasion! All doing what was needed for the team when asked!

08/01/12 Staines Lammas reds 1 AFC Brooklands 3

The falcons fought to a hard won but deserved victory against a physically strong and dangerous Lammas side. The first half seen the falcons with a quite a lot of possession and some good play, though with too much turkey and pudding lurking around no real threat. Indeed with a strong Lammas side they had quite a few shots that flashed past the post or Hands of glue dealt with! Even three substitutions could not bring about any success in front of goal though Munir did press up front. The defensive qualities of Lucas, Jordan and Dawson again helping the Falcons! Close to half time after a falcon attack Lammas broke and using the wing and a cross for a good finish to go one up! GOAL 0-1.

Half time 0-1

In the second half the boys responded to the half time team talk with a much improved better half. All the coach asked for was effort and that is what we got. Having lost the Christmas trimmings much more hunger for the ball and it showed with much more possession and threat from Mansbridge, Silva and Davis. A succession of corners and Nolan hits the post with curling effort when the ball returned to him out wide. GOAL! 1-1 Another attack and when the ball fell to Nolan he struck it with some venom and from almost the halfway line the ball sailed over the keepers hands and into the net. Soon efforts from Mansbridge, Lewis came and went. Most of the ball was in the Staines half. Soon PENALTY! A header from Lewis was clearly handled and the ref points to the spot! Although about 5 looked as if they were going to take it, it was the nominated birthday boy of Lewis that drills home the ball GOAL 1-2! The Falcons continue to dominate and soon it was GOAL 1-3 as Silva with another great game on the left fires in a cross and pressure from Munir sees the defender turn the ball into his own net! Efforts from Lewis, and Lucas from long range sailed closely over and a audacious run from Jordan with a save from the keeper near the end!

A great effort and great start to the New Year! The efforts of the second half were as good as we have seen this season! With effort, skill and determination falling short to the never give up mentality the boys have developed! Well done to all!!

18/12 Hersham Harriers 2 - 6  AFC Brooklands

In a hastily rearranged fixture from earlier in the season the Falcons round off the year with a good away win. Again a mostly solid performance was rewarded with a a number of goals and scorers. A frosty morning with the opposition only able to field 6 players versus the 10 Falcons available a testament to the lad’s willingness and courage to play footy whatever the weather. We start with 6 aside and Joe P, Tim J, Sam L, Joe N, Christian S and Ethan M start with a strong bench of Josh J, Will L, Seb D and Esah M. The early exchanges were quite even with Hersham showing signs of neat play; It took Brooklands a while to settle down. Half way through the first half the introduction of Munir proved pivotal as the extra man swung the game in the Falcons favour. The Harriers keeper pulled off a number of saves. GOAL!  1- 0 to Brooklands with Silva firing home from close range then suddenly GOAL 2 – 0 as Nolan also fires home after setting himself up at close range. Introducing some great replacements in Lucas, Jordan and Dawson the boys continued to the break!

In the second half all the boys played some really good football with attacks coming down each wing with a number of different passing movements. GOAL 3 – 0 as Munir drills the ball home, then quite quickly GOAL 4- 0 with Munir again forcing the ball home. Hersham showed their metal by scoring almost immediately GOAL 4 -1. Failure to clear our lines costing a goal. In an entertaining game GOAL 5 -1 As Mansbridge fires home. Harriers by name and Harriers by nature as again they do not give up GOAL 5 – 2! Lessons to be learnt in closing down and clearing for the Falcons. Not to give up then the Falcons again move up the pitch, GOAL 6 – 2,  Munir finishes and secures a hat trick. So the first half of the season finishes with another good team performance, and a result that allows the new boys to finish 2011 on a positive note.

11/12 AFC Brooklands Falcons 3-1 Abbey Rangers

A Game of Two Halves!

The falcons slip to defeat and concede 3 goals in a game since the second match of the season. A big and strong Abbey Rangers side out muscled the Falcons in the first half, three shots producing three goals. If Brooklands had closed down or cleared then the result may be have been different.  A generally slow start seen the team 3 – 0 down with the half time whistle gone.

In a magical turn around in the second half a dominating footballing display seen the Falcons used their wings to great effect. All the players had raised their game with more tackling and winning of the ball the midfield and forwards were finding each other with neat passes, allowing different players to get in pas the Rangers defence and put crosses in. The Rangers keeper and defender clearing their lines on a number of occasions. Bouyed by the performance a strong support from the huge following that had come to support this ‘local derby’ raised the noise levels. Only dampened by the munching of Carols mince pies! (follow that Joy!!). GOAL 3 – 1 Esah takes a long range effort, and as I turn away thinking it is not our day I see the ball in the back of the net and the keeper with his head in his hands!! Brooklands though Harper, Davis, Nolan and Silva create more chances and unfortunately could not get another goal! We had a big physical side to deal with and in the second half is was as good a team effort and performance that anyone could wish for, really proud of the boys!!

04/12 AFC Brooklands Falcons 5-1 Molesey Juniors All stars

The game on Sunday had a different result to the previous week as we did not have the wind to contend with! In a game that again we had lots of possession we managed to have five different goal scorers and put in a display that all can be proud of! In some great work and chances in the early period it looked as if it was going to be one of those days! Various good moves did not have the right product at the end to produce a goal. Harper, Munir and Mansbridge in the early exchanges using supply from Lewis, Johnson and Lucas to good effect and Philpott rarely troubled in goals! Then bang! GOAL – 1-0 Harper completes with aplomb for his first goal, just reward! Even the ref seemed to appreciate the goal!

With rolling subs then we had a strong bench with McDonald, Davis and Jordan. Rolling the subs until later made the gamer flow better. Tenacious work from Munir in their half was pleasant to see. GOAL! – 2-0 as Mansbridge finishes with great accuracy high into the net after some good work. BANG GOAL 3 -0 as this time Munir finishes and is reward for his performance. Going strong it is BANG 4-0 GOAL this time with Davis finishing high into the net after some neat composure. With continued pressure the Falcons let Molesey break and there striker gather pace to beat Hands of Glue GOAL 4-1. Showing the ability to keep going (which coach always asks for irrespective of the score) and an inspired substitution by the coach it is GOAL 5 -1 as MacDonald scores with a shot at the death! Another great performance with the defence through Johnson, Jordan and Lucas doing sterling work!

04/12 Our Kestrels Manoeuvre In the Park Is Music to our Ears

The Kestrels are flying high with a 6-0 inaugural win! The Squad of nine was Edmonds, Dawson, Redgewell, Donovan-Philip, Nolan, Silva, Woodman, O’Shea and Miller. Bartek steps forward as coach with much support from the parents. The scene was set. A difficult challenge in picking the first team as many had not played before and missing Poulton and Govinden didn’t help. The side had Edmonds in goal (James straight up with his hand on behalf of his team mates – cheers) Dawson and Redgewell in defence, Nolan, Silva and Donovan-Philips in Midfield with Miller up front. A strong bench with O’Shea and Woodman as subs. It is fair to say that the Kestrels dominated possession through out the game with an estimated 90% of possession. Miller, Nolan and Silva causing problems in Harts defence. A few chances went a begging and when you thought it was just one of those days GOAL! Miller finishes after pressure in the box! Again tackling and passing like they had played together before soon it was 2-0 GOAL! Donovan- Philips scores with again the pressure in the box allowing Ryan to get his shot away. Penalty opportunity for AFC Brooklands is turned downed, as clear hand ball in the area! Double substitution with Woodman and O’Shea replacing Dawson and Miller! Constant passing and runs with Silva and Nolan making Kestrels wings strong! GOAL! Just before half time Nolan dribbles past two and slots the Ball home.

With rolling subs and positions and paying uphill against the wind then a sterner task was expected. Some lovely passing moves and running with the ball from all over the pitch with players like Woodman showing great ball control and turns, O’Shea and Dawson pushing neat passes on. GOAL! 4-0 A lovely little run and finish after beating a number of players for Nolan to score. Camped in the HART FC half then the pressure really showed as GOAL, Redgewell persists and scores. Dawson, Miller, Nolan also going close and another penalty claim waved away, who was the ref the crowd calls! GOAL Silva slots home after a lovely run! The ref blows the final whistle where with all the domination then the goalie had little to do and the two breaks into the Kestrels area were thwarted by a great run and tackle by Cristian and Edmonds in goal!  A great achievement for all in a first game!

A Windswept day in the Wilderness!

Another draw for AFC Brooklands! In a gamble the coach played against the wind in the first half and despite a sterling performance by all players on the pitch we for the first time in eight matches found ourselves two goals down. Brooklands team equipped themselves well in their passing and moving with a number of moves involving Silva, MacDonald, Davis and Lewis. Cristian Silva’s speed causing problems down the right. Brooklands went behind as a long range effort managed to get past Dawson in goals with the wind playing its part. The wind then played a bizarre assist in their second. The goalkeepers kick out bouncing twice and evading Seb’s outreached hand into the net. Despite this Brooklands continued to play football with some neat passing moves. Towards the end of the half, Davis is played through and is bundled over, shrugging of the knock Davis steps up to hit the deadliest free kick that just sailed over the bar with a matter of inches to spare. What an effort! Other chances from Silva and Lewis nearly paid off!

With no rolling subs we changed keeper with Johnson replacing Dawson. Nolan on for MacDonald and Munir for Davis. The wind had died down and so was less of an advantage in the second half. Lucas and Jordan continued where they left off in the first half and defended solidly. The midfield and attack chased to win the ball and then produced some lovely football with intricate passing. GOAL. After winning the ball the midfield worked the ball to Munir and he in some passes with Lewis set him free to place the ball home, we are back to 2 1. The ball and play was pretty much in the Molesey half, and the pressure soon paid off with a second little dribble from Munir who steered the ball past the keeper! GOAL! Now back at 2 – 2 (Bishop Desmond!) we pressed and pressed for a third. Winning corners and free kicks but couldn’t manage to score. Molesey giving a late scare from a free kick but our new keeper in Hands of adhesive, Johnson dealt with it well under the bar and post! We did go close with an edge of the area effort from Jordan and at the last Lewis put over the bar after the best move of the match! No added time for the injuries, shoe laces etc and so Brooklands run out of time to try to snatch a winner!

Coming from two goals down shows the ability, confidence and spirit of the side and so all the boys should be proud of themselves!

23/10  AFC Brooklands 1 - 2 Byfleet Village

Again the under 10’s Falcons have a lot of possession and played some good passing football only for the result not to reflect the performance. Two goals from Byfleet in the second half when on each occasion we didn’t clear the ball far enough they managed to beat Hands of Glue Joe! It is the first time we have conceded more than one goal since the second game of the season. A lot of this was due to the defending of Lucas, Dawson, Lewis, Johnson and Nolan. As the game progressed a spectacular goal as the crowd chanted ‘Nolan from the halfway line’ as Joe lobbed the ball towards goal only for the keeper to spill it! It was like ‘Nayim from the halfway line’!! The half time brief was to keep working hard as it was a close game. To their credit the boys did that with Silva, Davis, Mansbridge and MacDonald all working hard to create chances. We had the possession, we had the chances but they didn’t go in! Sam went close, allegedly Cristian’s effort may have gone over the line, and Ethan had his miraculously saved at the death to stop a chance of extra time! One lesson for the coach is maybe not be generous in giving their keeper a set of gloves!!

23/10 Haliford  1 - 2 AFC Brooklands

Oh my word! What can we say about today! The most wonderful and uplifting feeling! Every single player was fantastic and their ability to keep going despite some pressure and conceding a goal was truly immense!

Esah got us off to the perfect start after we scored in the first minute! A shock to the top of the table side! A very good passing side in Halliford competed well but or 3 3 formation worked as the midfield in Matthew, Esah and Christian kept working hard with Joe Sam and Josh working wonders at the back!

Even the five minute of extra time in the first half couldn’t allow them to score! Joe P commanding in goals! His HANDS OF GLUE moment in the second half was great as he leapt to make the best save I have seen at under age footy!

The second half again we outplayed for most of the game only for them to equalise in injury time with a well worked passing goal! My heart sank as it was the first goal conceded in open play for four games! Josh and William at the back tackled and tackled!

In the dying seconds after resolute defending the ball was worked quickly to Esah who never give up the chase and as Joe N and Sam arrived in the box the perfect pass was pinged to Sam to slot home! Whoop Whoop! Pandemonium on the line! I was a cross between A jumping bean and Emlyn Hughes after a goal! Despite a prolonged added time and a few corners Brooklands stood strong!

I am sorry if I have got carried away but because I was and am! We should be so proud of their performance! Again we have not given up! At last our performance got the reward it deserved!

The Milky bars are on me! Next week we have a tough cup game against a div 3 side! So I will try to come down of the ceiling by tomorrow! A big thanks to all today and for the support and help!

Whoop Whoop! Woo hoo woo hoo!
