Eggy Cracks it for AFC
A clinical strike from James Egginton secured the points for AFC in a hard fought but even encounter. Haslemere started the stronger, but with CJ Whitcombe and Ryan Sleat at the heart of the defence breaking up play, AFC were rarely troubled. As the half moved on AFC began to boss the midfield and create chances. The half finished with honours even, which was probably a fair reflection. The second half began as the first with Haslemere on top and AFC defending strongly against a number of corners. Despite AFC starting to dominate, the game was heading for stalemate when a defence splitting pass from Lee Taylor was met by Egginton arriving from a deep position, he collected the ball, powered into the area and drilled his shot past the keeper. Haslemere came back briefly but AFC, with some committed defending held firm to the final whistle.
AFC's U15's took on the might of the West Surrey, Epsom, Surrey Primary Premier Division teams in this six team round robin event on 6th Sept. After five very hard 30 minute games AFC secured 2 draws, two narrow 0 - 1 defeats and a bit of a tonking at the hands of Staines Town. The lads put in creditable performances against all the teams and on another day could have turned the draws into wins and the narrow defeats into draws. Steve Ludlow in the AFC goal needs special mention for the most amazing penalty save. Highlight of the day was the award to AFC Brooklands, voted by the days match officials, of the Sportsmanship Trophy.
