25/4/10
Friendly - Horsley B v
AFC
Brooklands
Another Sunday, another
friendly. This time Brooklands were facing a Horsley B side. Who had
finished the season second in Div 4.
It looked like it was
going to be a tough test and so it proved to be. Both teams started well
with Brooklands looking good in attack. Chances were created but chances
were missed. Ben and Jamie on the wings were a constant threat and Alex
and Andrew were pulling the strings in midfield.
Brooklands persistence
finally paid off and it was Antonio, with a hopeful punt towards goal,
which went straight through the goalies legs. 0-1. More chances were
created and missed by Brooklands before a break by Horsley ended with a
neat finish 1-1.
Brooklands responded in
kind and a great shot by Andrew made it 1-2 to Brooklands at half time.
Second half and Horsley
brought on their big guns. They looked far more dangerous and began to
turn the screw. Brooklands battled ,but were finding chances a lot more
difficult to come by. Man of the match Alex was running all over the
place but couldn’t stop Horsley scoring 2 quick goals.3-2 Horsley.
Brooklands were rocking now but another great shot by Andrew, made it
3-3. That was as good as
it got for Brooklands. Horsley’s class began to shine through and a
mixture of good finishing and not so good defending ended with Horsley
running out 7-3 winners.
18/4/10 Friendly - Worplesden
Pheonix 3 v 2 AFC Brooklands
A weakened Brooklands side, came into this friendly,
against unbeaten Div 6 leaders Worplesden Pheonix, who were preparing for
their Plate final this coming Sunday against Elmgrove.
Worplesden's only defeat this season was against
Brooklands in the Cup and they were looking to reverse that result.
Brooklands started off the stronger and with 2 under
11's Max and Ryan playing well and looked dangerous on the attack.
Michael and Johnny were breaking fast and Elliott (in goal) and Zac at
right back, were playing well. Arran, as always, disciplined in the hole.
Worplesden however scored first. A long ball over the
top, the defence beaten 1-0. Brooklands response was quick. A lovely
move down the right involving man of the match Zac and Arran ended with
Johnny cutting in from the right and finishing with a lovely controlled
left footer.
Half Time 1-1 and the boys came off for a well
deserved drink. It was a warm afternoon.
The second half was not very old when a blister on
his heel caused Callum S to come off. Brooklands were now down to 10 men
and had no subs to bring on. But to their credit they battled on and
took the lead. A lovely run and finish by Michael. With 10 minutes left
Brooklands looked
quite comfortable and could have increased their
lead. Worplesden however had other ideas and scored twice. The first a
scrambled effort in the box. The second a ball over the top and a cool
finish. Final score 3-2 Worplesden.
So Worplesden, now march on to the plate final. We
wish them the best of luck.
11/4/10 Friendly - Abbey rangers 1 - 7 AFC Brooklands
Brooklands came into this friendly on the
back of a very successful league campaign. However, they only had 9
first team players available, so had to
rely on 2 guest players and 2 players from
the under 10's to make up the numbers.
Brooklands started off strong and attacked from the off. Jamie on loan
from Brooklands Hawks was in fine form and was making raids down the
right wing.
Arran
looked strong in defence and Sam ,also on loan, this time from Meadow
boys, was controlling the midfield.
Brooklands took the lead a fine run and
finish by Jamie. Shortly after, a nice move, ended with in Ben slotting
the ball home (with his right foot!) 0-2.
Abbey Rangers upped their game and had a few attacks
of their own. Brooklands looked comfortable in defence and Alex
was having a great game at right
back, showing great maturity and calmness, even though he was under 10!
Abbey Rangers kept going though and made
it 1-2 when Michael, Brooklands sub (albeit not very enthusiastic)
goalie got beat on the near post.
Just before half time Jamie repeated his
run and finish and Brooklands went in 1-3 up at halftime.
Second half and Brooklands had a new
goalie Harry B and he did look enthusiastic (I think). Michael was now
in his favoured forward position and causing Abbey Rangers problems with
his pace. Abbey defended stoutly but Brooklands were now in control and
looking good.
Will was playing in midfield and the little blonde
under 10 was looking good. Brooklands continued to press and extended
their lead with goals by Michael (2), Sam and Man of the Match Jamie,
who completed his hat-trick.
So Brooklands ended the game with a 1-7
win against a battling Abbey Rangers side, who played well, but were up
against a strong and resolute Brooklands side.
21/3/10 League - Epsom & Ewell 1 - 10 AFC Brooklands
Now we can be honest - the
mums were REALLY worried about this one.
Preparation had been intense
- boys had been made to have uncharacteristically early nights, with no
access to 'Call of Duty' before 0900 on Sunday. Dylan M had even been
made to get up earlier than usual and have breakfast!
So the preparation was
faultless, all that was needed was for the boys to play well as a team,
and they didn't disappoint.
The boys showed none of their
parents or coaches nerves and Brooklands were quickly 2 : 0 up (before
Neil and Suesi had even left the house for son number 2's birthday
party.) Michael was playing well and full of confidence in front of goal
with Dylan C setting up one and Ben setting up the other. Another few
minutes of pressure from Brooklands -Michael had his hat-trick.
Martin and Rob were by now
enjoying the match and were able to swap the boys around so everyone got
a game. We discovered that the Epsom coach was actually louder than
Martin and was very vocal in his encouragement of the boys. Half time
saw Brooklands 5 :0 up and Martin and Rob were by now looking shell
shocked (in a good way).
Epsom didn't give up and
although Zac didn't have much to do, he still had to make a couple of
great saves, the defense were busy in turning Epsom attack into
Brooklands counter attack, with Callum P, Dylan M, Harry B, Joseph and
Antonio chasing every ball. The midfield were no slouches either
with Andy having his usual excellent game which resulted in a great long
distance free kick making it 4:0.
Dylan, Jonny, Marc, Ben,
Harry P, Arran
and Callum S all ran their socks off to ensure Brooklands had the most
possession and territory of the match.
At this point I was allowed
to get my camera out and so recollections of the match are a bit hazy -
in summary : Mikey continued to play a blinder with 5 goals in total.
Andy had another great goal by beating the keeper and slotting in to the
back of the net and ended up with a deserved hat-trick. Ben and Harry P
added one more a piece. It was hard to believe that this team had been
our biggest threat to the league title as Brooklands just looked so
comfortable against them.
FINAL SCORE Brooklands 10
Epsom & Ewell 1. Although Statto would argue that Brooklands haven't won
the league yet - we are in a brilliant position but all credit to Epsom
for playing on with great spirit and determination for the full match,
and they were great sportsmen at the end of the game with no tears or
complaints about the way Brooklands had won.
All of the boys played well,
with some great passing contributing to some amazing goals but also some
solo touches of brilliance showed how much confidence the boys have got
from playing together over the last year. Sadly it does not look as if
Andy will play for Brooklands next year but Martin was quick to play
tribute to the influence he has had on the whole team this year, and we
all wish him well in his future sporting endeavor with the oval ball!

outstanding money with you, and if you have any questions please email

14/3/10 Friendly - AFC Brooklands 5 - 4 Abbey Rangers
Brooklands and Abbey Rangers produced a roller coaster friendly on this
sunny Sunday morning. The football was fast and furious, but played in the
right spirit. Chances galore were made at both ends and defences were
stretched. Brooklands, with Callum S in goal, had to be on their metal as
Abbey Rangers were looking good up front.
Brooklands took the lead. A great run down the right hand side by
Marc ended with a cross that was knocked back to Dylan C, who side footed
a delicious ball high into the back of the net 1-0. Shortly after a great
shot from Michael, from the edge of the area, made it 0-2.
Abbey Rangers however, were made of strong stuff and got a goal back
before half time 2-1.
Abbey Rangers started the second half on the front foot and scored 2
goals without reply. 2-3. Brooklands upped their game and with new
recruits Olly and Elliott( now in goal) putting in fine
performances they drew level. A lovely through ball from Callum S put
Harry P through. He finished in style 3-3. More chances were missed by
both sides before Captain Fantastic Match Arran scored
4-3. Callum S then made it 5-3. Abbey Rangers kept going and made it
5-4,just before the final whistle.
A great game and all credit to Abbey Rangers, who looked much better
than their div 6
status showed.
7/3/10 Friendly - Lyne Predators 0 - 5 AFC Brooklands
Brooklands started off on the front foot, attacking from the off. Lyne
however, were sturdy in defence and a mixture of bad finishing and off
sides,
meant that Brooklands couldn’t find the net.
Lyne grew in confidence and a had a few raids on
the Brooklands goal, but they came to nothing. Then a lovely through
ball by Dylan M found Michael, who took the ball on his left foot, ran
at the defence and slotted the ball home on his right foot. 0-1
Brooklands. Half time.
Brooklands came out for the second half full of
vigour and looked a different team. With Harry P and Ben running down
the wings and Michael, finally getting the hang of the off- side trap,
Brooklands took control. Some lovely pass and move play saw Harry P and
Michael net 2 more goals each - Michael getting his hat trick All credit
to Lyne, who played their part in a entertaining match, played in the
right spirit
21/2/10 League - AFC Brooklands 3 - 5 Guildford City Pumas
AFC Brooklands came into this crucial league match full of
confidence on the back of 9 straight league wins. They had been scoring
goals for fun and defending like Trojans. Having beaten Guildford
earlier in the season 9-2, Brooklands were looking for there 10th
straight win.
Guildford, however, had other ideas and wanted revenge for the result
earlier in the season. From the kick off, Guildford seemed to want it
more. They were quicker to the tackle and looked more organised. They
also had a new goalkeeper and right winger. These 2 were crucial to the
final score.
Guildford took the lead. A run down the wing ending with a neat finish
0-1. This woke Brooklands up and shortly after Andrew made a strong run
through the Guildford defence. Bang 1-1. From the restart, however, a
run down the left and soft hands by Zach, meant another goal for
Guildford 1-2. Brooklands tried to rally, but some good goalkeeping by
the inspired Guildford goalie, kept them at bay. Guildford then scored
another goal just before halftime 1-3.
Second half and Brooklands upped their game. They seemed more eager,
more determined. They attacked the Guildford goal, but every time were
met by a goalie inspired. Guildford's outfield players responded by
scoring another 2 goals. 1-5. Brooklands however rallied and with goals
by Michael and man of the match Harry Parkes pulled 2 goals back 3-5.But
it was too late. Full time.
A deserved win for Guildford and Brooklands must now win their last game
of the season to have any chance of promotion.
14/2/10 League - AFC Brooklands 8 - 1 Staines Lammas
Having read avidly of the exploits of the Falcons as a long distance
supporter it was great to be able to attend a game in person and at home
- so from your Far East correspondent it is my pleasure to report on a
convincing result (though the match was closer than the score would have
you believe) as the Falcons continue to lead the league.
So to St Georges, the home of U12 football, crisp but perfect conditions
set up for the AFC vs Staines game and a quick look at the table
suggested a Falcons win was on the cards, however no-one had told
Staines Lammas Colts that. So as the referee turned up late, from the
kick off it looked like AFC were keen to copy him.
Harry P as acting captain got the game underway. The first few minutes
saw the slow start that followers of the Falcons are used to. Looked
like the pre-match talk of scoring 5 or more was wishful thinking as
early encounters saw Staines with the better chances and pressing AFC
into stern defence. Strong running and excellent position play from
Antonio, Harry B, Dylan M (may have had difficulty getting out of bed
but was certainly awake to all Staines could muster) meant that the
early Staines breaks came to nothing. As we all got ready for a low
scoring and hard fought game the Falcons conjured the first flowing move
that has come to characterise their play - great technique made the
difference - a precision through pass from Marc to release Zach who
slotted to the side of the opposition keeper 1 - 0 to Falcons, an
opening goal from the first choice goalkeeper ! (Falcons are nothing but
versatile). Deadlock broken, and AFC seemed to settle into a better and
more familiar tempo, the passing game started to connect with some great
work down the left from Ben and Antonio starting to open things up - a
combination that worked to great effect all match. So after a great
example of team play and movement came an example of strong and direct
running, Michael picked the ball up in his own half and after a powerful
run tapped in the 2nd after his initial shot was well saved from keeper.
Half time whistle, Falcons 2 - Staines 0. Still a close game as Staines
had continued to show threat from their strong running forwards.
Half time team talk seemed to have worked, as AFC sped out of the blocks
straight from the kick off, Andy picked the ball up in the centre circle
and threaded up the pitch, crisp shot and it was 3 - 0. 2 goals in a
minute either side of half time saw momentum back with the Falcons. So
things definitely looking up for AFC Brooklands but Staines never gave
up and continued to put us under pressure and only some continued great
work at the back preserving the clean sheet - Dylan C more typically
seen heading them in was heading them off his own line from a corner,
Antonio and Harry B with some great tracking back to keep the dangerous
Staines number 10 at bay and Dylan M stopping everything that came
anywhere near him with a really robust display. In midfield however
Harry P, Michael, Johnny W, Marc and Andy were beginning to pull the
strings of the game and there was some sharp passing and individual
skills starting to open up Staines who as they pressed for a goal were
being exposed by the Falcons midfield and forward line. After a now
familiar flowing move ended in a free kick just outside the oppositions
penalty area a storming Michael free kick saw a great save from the
keeper force the ball up on to the bar and Dylan C showing typical
alertness in the box was on hand to be first to the ball and turned it
in for 4 - 0, just deserves for his relentless efforts all day.
As the game wore on the Falcons continued to press and with victory now
not in any doubt the boys started to ping the ball around neatly,
Michael bursting through into the box struck a beautiful low hard shot
into the corner to make it 5 - 0. From the kickoff, Andy never one to be
out done showed some great individual strength and skill with a strong
run and cut in from the right to shoot low under the keeper for 6 - 0.
Staines remained focused and with a resiliency AFC would do much to
learn from continued to press and scored a nicely worked goal to deny
the clean sheet we all hoped for, 6 - 1.
If the man of the match award was in doubt, cometh the hour cometh the
man and Antonio, who hadn't missed a thing all day, now came bursting
down the left and with some clever wing play with Ben (who was lively
all game) found himself bearing down on goal - with what seemed like the
whole of the AFC team screaming at him to cross it, Antonio coolly did
what all left backs of quality would do and slotted it low and clean
into the net - great goal that sealed the MoM award. 7 -1 and for our
older viewers to mis-quote Kenneth Wolstenholme (ask your dad who he is)
just when you thought it was all over - a great cross from Dylan C and
captain for the day Harry P meets it full on the volley, sweet as a nut,
back of the net - it is now ! 8-1 and a well deserved reward for Harry P
who had led the line all day and showed typical energy and skill all
game (unbiased summary of the game from his proud dad).
So great scoreline for AFC as they continue to set the pace in the
league title race, scorers:
Andrew 2
Michael 2
Zach 1
Antonio 1
Dylan C 1
Harry P 1
All goals from great approach play and passing..... 8-1 is a tad
generous and congratulations to Staines for their continued pressing of
the game and great attitude. The story was as much about some great
finishing as some superb defence reflecting in Antonio receiving a well
deserved man of the match award. Bring on Guildford ! The flight to Hong
Kong was a long one, but at least it gave me 12 hours to write the match
report - best of luck boys for continued success in the league, lets
make it a winning season - proud of you all.

7/2/10 League - Send 0 - 8 AFC Brooklands
Brookland's quest for the league title is still on track with a
convincing win against 10-man Send.
Brooklands started off like a steam train with Ben scoring straight from
the kick-off after a lovely through ball from Andrew. Send rallied
though and to their credit had a couple of good breaks down the left
hand side, but couldn't finish off chances made. Brooklands continued to
push but kept getting caught offside. The pressure paid off though and
further goals by Marc, Andrew and Arran, meant that Brooklands went in
at half time 0-4.
Second half was the same story, with Brooklands turning the screw and
going forward at will. Despite numerous offside decisions,
Man of the Match Harry P scored and further goals by Michael 2 and Arran
secured a 0-8 victory.
31/1/10 League - AFC Brooklands 6 - 0 Farncombe Dynamos
At about the same time as Andy Murray's gutsy effort to beat Roger
Federer faded into the Australian Outback AFC Brooklands kicked off in
search of their own Grand Slam against Farncombe Dynamos.
Brooklands playing in a new 4-3-2-1(Christmas tree) formation, went
straight on the offensive, with Andrew pulling the strings and causing
havoc in Farncombe's defence.
Callum S starting his first game up front looked composed and Harry P
was his usual busy self.
It wasn't long before Brooklands took the lead. A fierce shot by Andrew
that went straight through the keepers legs 1-0.
Farncombe did produce some counter attacks, but the Brooklands defence
looked solid, with Zach mopping up any through balls.
Brooklands continued to attack and from a corner Harry P headed against
the bar, the ball hitting a Farncombe defender and into the net og 2-0.
Farncombe continued to battle away, but a neat move involving Callum S
and Johnny (feds) Westlake, ended with Johnny shooting past the keeper
3-0. With half time approaching,
Farncombe hoofed the ball up field, it cleared Brookland's defence and
Zach came out to clear only to miss the ball completely! Farncombe's big
number 5 ran through to score, but Joseph produced a superb sliding
tackle and Brooklands went into half time 3-0 up.
Farncombe came out second half with renewed vigour. They pressed and put
Brooklands under pressure, but a mixture of good defending by Brooklands
and unlucky finishing by Farncombe meant that their efforts were in
vain.
Brooklands however were taking there chances and further goals by
Michael and 2 more by Andrew, made the score line look a lot more
flattering than it should be. Credit to Farncombe though, they kept
going, but a missed penalty in the closing minutes meant it wasn't going
to their day!
For Brooklands however it was 6-0.
Game, set and match!

24/1/10 League - Feltham Reds 1 - 3 AFC Brooklands
After a two month Christmas
break the Falcon's first match was away to Feltham Reds (who play in
blue for some reason!), a team that comfortably beat them 7-1 in the
previous fixture.
A delayed start caused by the previous game going to extra time and
penalties gave the Falcons ample time to warm up whilst the home team
sought refuge from the cold in the club house.
From the kick off you could see that this was going to be a different
game to the earlier fixture. Lining up in their now familiar 4-1-4-1
formation the Falcons took control from the off with a run from Andrew
and some good passing between the midfield players. The majority of
possession and chances were for the Falcons and it wasn't long before
they took the lead. A great run by Andrew down the right wing lead
to a cross that Ben skilfully allowed to bounce off his shin and go in.
(He claims it was a volley but only because he gets more pocket money
for those!)
Brooklands retained the upper hand and a second goal wasn't long in
coming. Some good passing and an excellent run by Michael ended with him
scoring the second (with his right foot, much to the amazement of his
dad).
Feltham started to fight back, but the Brooklands defence held firm.
Centre backs Joseph and Callum forming a partnership in the mould of
Terry and Ferdinand for England and fullbacks Marc and Antonio snuffing
out the wide attacks. Feltham resorted to the long ball. Zach, alert as
ever, raced off his line to clear only for the ball to bounce awkwardly
and him to miss-kick. The Feltham forward calmly finished into an open net
against the run of play. 2-1 Brooklands.
A half time team talk from Martin refocused the team and they returned
to pitch with heads held high. Attack after attack from Michael and
Dylan ended without reward, as the Feltham number 3 frustrated them time
and time again. Arran in the holding role and the back four held firm.
Johnny made a nuisance of himself and constantly broke up the Feltham
flow and intelligent play from Harry Parkes caused the Feltham midfield
problems. A couple of scares from the Feltham attack, especially their
number 10, kept the spectators' heart rates up. But Brooklands continued
to hold firm and break well. The game got tougher. Knocks to Michael and
Andrew threatened to disrupt the their flow, but they played through the
pain to continue the fight.
Then a great ball into the box. The Feltham 'keeper came off his line to
punch clear but a brave and measured header from Dylan Crawford neatly
lobbed the ball over his outstretched arms and into the back of the net.
3-1 and the pressure was eased.
Feltham didn't give up. They turned up the pace and their talented
number 3 pushed forward. Great defensive work by Dylan M who was
relentless in the tackle and tireless running from Michael, now in the
left midfield position, thwarted every attempt. A goal-mouth scramble
led to a brave point-blank save by Zach.
The final whistle came and a proud Martin was jubilant. A key victory
for the Falcons title race against a tough and well-organised
opposition. They now back to top spot on goal difference.
13/12/09 SPL Junior Cup AFC
Brooklands 2 - 3 Egham Town Saints
After a nail-biting first round that saw Brooklands go through on
penalties they faced a strong Egham side in round two. Egham, top of
division 4, had already beaten Brooklands 3 - 0 in a pre-season.
However, recent Brooklands form suggested that this was going to be a
great contest.
The game was lively from the kick-off. The teams were charged up for
this game with some great football from both sides. Brooklands were very
disciplined in holding their shape and a combination of a strong back
four plus great tackling by Arran in the holding midfield role meant
that Egham’s attacks were broken down every time. Brooklands had equal
share of the play in the first half and a number of chances on goal.
Andrew came close with a couple of long range shots and some great work
down the wing by Josh and Marc led to some good crosses. The teams
played well, were entertaining but cancelled each other out for the
first 30 minutes. Half time 0-0.
The second half started in much the same way. Egham are a fit team that
always play well in the second half. They kept pushing and won a corner
that was well executed and ended with a glancing header into the
Brooklands net. 1-0 Egham.
You could see the disappointment in the Brooklands players, but they got
back into the game. Creating chances. Harry P had moved from right back
to centre forward and was causing the Egham defence a few problems.
Callum P continued to be solid at the back make tackle after tackle.
Then Egham broke down their left wing, cut inside and finished with a
shot that Zac had no chance of saving. 2-0. For a moment the Brooklands
team looked defeated but some determined play by Andrew and Dylan and
motivation from
Arran
soon got them back into the game. Andrew, who had been running rings
around the Egham midfield all day found a bit space and shot from 25
yards. The ‘keeper got his hands to it but it was too strong to stop.
Brooklands were back in the game again. From the kick off you could feel
the tables turning. Brooklands attacked with spirit and great defending
by the back four and
Arran
kept the Egham attack at bay.
A short pass to Ben on the edge of the Egham box was well
controlled and then he was fouled. Andrew stepped up and put an inch
perfect cross in to Harry P who had timed his run to the far post to
perfection. One touch and it was 2-2. Game on.
The match picked up a gear now with the ball going from to end to end
with boths sides searching for the win. An awesome sliding tackle from
Arran
and a cheeky turn on the ball by Ben brought cheers from the Brooklands
fans. It was real end to end stuff and a delight to watch.
Egham broke down the right wing and beat the Brooklands offside trap.
Their midfielder shaped up to cross only for Ben, who had tracked back
the entire length of the pitch, to slide in with a crunching tackle and
deny him the chance. This led to a corner with a few minutes to go.
Another well executed corner that Brooklands failed to deal with. The
Egham forward pounced on the chance and slotted home to take the lead.
Brooklands pressed hard to get the equaliser. Everyone surged forward in
an attempt to get back in the game. Zac was alert for the quick break
and sprung out of his area to clear the long ball over the top. But
Egham held fast.
It was a fantastic game for the spectators and a courageous performance
from the boys. Egham are a good team and you gave them a good run for
their money. Good luck to Egham in the next round.
29/11/09 SPL Junior Cup AFC
Brooklands 2 - 2 Worplesdon Phoenix (AFC Brooklands win 3-2 on pens)
WET WET WET!
Another rain soaked Sunday morning and another win for the boys in
orange (albeit on pens)
This SPL Cup match, was played by two in form teams on a wet and windy
pitch and the quality of football was very good.
Worplesden Phoenix are top of league division 6 and showed why. They
battled hard and looked dangerous on the break, but Brooklands are on a
very good run of results and were fastest out of the blocks. Chances
were created, the best of which saw Michael hit the bar. With the
defence looking very strong and MOM Harry B putting the shackles on Worplesden's best player,
Brooklands took the lead with a neat finish by Dylan C. The lead
did not last long though and Worplesden equalised.
Half Time 1-1.
The second half started off much like the first with Brooklands on the
attack from the off. Worplesden are made of strong stuff though and with
the wind behind them they took the lead 1-2.
Brooklands responded by scoring shortly after a lovely move down the
left involving Ben and Johnny saw Johnny tuck the ball into the net
2-2.
The rain then turned to hail, so the boys went off for 10mins.
The match restarted, but the rain and wind was getting worse.
With 15 minutess left it was decided to stop the match and go straight to
penalties to decide who would go through to the next round.
Worplesden took the first pen and it flew over the bar.
Johnny then tucked away Brooklands first 0-1. Worplesden then scored
1-1.Up stepped Michael who shot straight at the keeper 1-1. Worplesden
then missed and Harry P scored 1-2. Worplesden scored 2-2.Up stepped
Dylan C 2-3
Worplesden last penalty was saved by Zach and Brooklands were through 2-3 on
penalties!
All credit to both teams for playing in good spirit in such bad
conditions and good luck to Worplesden in the Plate.
Brooklands march on though and will play Egham Town Saints at home in
the First Round of the Junior Cup.

8/11/09 Walton Casuals
Vandals 1 - 8 AFC Brooklands
Having put 10 past Walton in the previous rain soaked meeting hopes were
high for a good win in better weather. Walton appeared to be well
prepared for a difficult game and started off defending very deep. We
were allowed plenty of play and started attacking well with no real
finishes. We had 3 corners which came to nothing, Harry shot wide and
hit the post and there were 2 goal mouth scrambles which the keeper got
to first. Frustrating at first but each threat of a counter attack was
quickly dealt with by our back four working well together. Josh broke
the deadlock picking his spot nicely from a diagonal ball across the box
from Andrew 1-0. Shortly after Ben appeared to be going nowhere stuck in
the corner with three defenders closing in but a good turn and clean
pass back out gave Andrew a clear shot from just outside the box, keeper
had no chance 2-0.
Walton’s turn to show a bit of frustration they
gave away a free kick which was poorly defended and went straight in
then a few minutes later a penalty as Harry P was carelessly tripped in
the box. The free kick and the well taken penalty gave Andrew his hat
trick and he was hungry for more. Our next attack saw Harry getting
crowded out in the box but his nicely weighted pass across to Josh
coming in on the right gave him his second for 5-0. Our keeper had had
nothing to do in the first half thanks to stout defending any threats
from Walton had been snuffed out. Then came their best chance of the
first half. A neat break was forced out wide to the Right hand corner
but a neatly lifted ball came in to the six yard box with players coming
in Antonio’s neat header on put the ball away and back out of the
danger zone. Half time 5-0 a good score line but with Andrew
running the midfield we had a little worry of other players getting lazy
and leaving it all to him.
2nd Half and our words were heeded Walton were
under a lot of pressure but there defence were excellent mopping up
relentless pressure from Michael and Ben in particular. They were back
to defending deep. Nothing was getting through and the ball over the top
wasn’t working as the keeper was alert and always off his line quickly.
Our best chances came on the left with Michael and Ben both going wide
and then with a clear break Michael shot beat the keeper but went over
the bar too. All credit to Walton 5-0 at half time but they appeared to
have stopped the rot no goals for around 15 mins and then they had a
break on the counter which was well supported. Their follow up shot
lifted over the keeper into the top of the net. Their crowd went wild!
Celebrations on the pitch were they going to at least win the second
half?
Well they had shown how to hold a more dominant
team and got their deserved break so we can learn from that when meet
tougher opposition they had held us back for around 20 minutes and then
scored on the break. Trouble was right from the restart Walton pushed up
as if they all thought they could score and we really made them pay. The
next 5 minutes was a goal fest. First Michael’s pace on the left broke
through for him to beat the keeper 1 on 1 with a neatly curled ball,
next Andrew broke through from mid field and again 1 on 1 with the
keeper and again Ben broke the offside trap with Andrew making it 3
goals in less than five minutes.
All credit to Walton they came at us again before
the end and a good strike low and to his right looked like it would be
their second but for a great save from Callum.
All in all a one sided game but played in a great
spirit. We gave Walton few chances now let’s hope they can do us a
favour and pick up some points against other teams in our division.

1/11/09 AFC Brooklands 10 -
2 Walton Casuals Vandals
It was a very wet and windy
Sunday morning when AFC Brooklands and
Walton Casuals met for this crucial league div 5 match.
Brooklands were looking to extend there 3 match winning streak and got
off to a great start, going into a 3-0 lead with goals by Callum
S, Michael and Andrew. Despite the conditions the football was free
flowing and Brooklands were playing some lovely attacking football only
to be thwarted by the Walton 'keeper, who was on top form.
Walton, playing with the wind behind them, pulled a goal back
straight from a corner and to their credit, kept pushing for another, but
the whistle blew for half time 3-1.
The second half was a different story with Brooklands holding strong in
defence, well marshalled by man of the match Callum P and attacking at
will. It was a joy to watch.
Josh and Ben on the wings were on fire (despite the rain) and Andrew and
Harry P were strong and robust in midfield.
So it was no surprise when Brooklands extended their lead with further
goals by Ben, Harry P (2) and Josh 7-1.
Walton pulled another goal back, but further goals by Callum S, Andrew and
Michael wrapped the game up 10-2.
Brooklands Winning Streak continues.
All credit to both teams for playing in such bad weather
And to the spectators, who got soaked!

18/10/09 Staines Lammas 2 -
4 AFC BrooklandsAfter
two strong wins, Brooklands entered this game high on confidence.
Missing the key talents of Dylan M and Jonny (both called up for Hawks
Duty), plus ‘keeper Zach and Josh also unavailable the return of Harry P
was welcomed.
Brooklands started strongly and
within 3 minutes Michael had hit the
Staines post.
You could see that the Staines defence were in for a tough ride as the
attacks kept coming and it was only six minutes before the first goal
went in from Dylan C, this one was placed nicely along the ground and in
the corner following his
successes in recent weeks with lobbing the ‘keeper.
Three minutes later Brooklands won a corner and
Andrew put in the first of many great corners that bounced around before
being controlled nicely by Michael who turned and slotted home to make
it two nil.
Staines
started to settle and had a few breaks that came to nothing. Callum P,
in goal, had his first touch of the game after 12 minutes had passed
with a fairly straightforward save.
The Brooklands defence continued to be well
organised with a solid central pairing of Joseph and Harry B. Both
fullbacks were also having good games, Antonio tackling well and Marc
seeming to find his natural position at right back, with some great runs
forward he looked like a right-footed Ashley Cole.
After about 15 minutes Andrew
increased the lead with a good finish and Brooklands looked like they
were on their way to their third comfortable win in three weeks. They
continued to attack well with some great passing movements. However, the
Staines
defence had got themselves organised by this point and their offside
trap was very effective catching Brooklands out at least a dozen times.
The attacks from Brooklands included a great run down the wing by Arran,
some good interchanges between Michael and Mark and pin point passing
from Andrew and great control and runs from Ben who seemed to have the
Staines fullback for pace every time.
Staines
continued to break well especially as the Brooklands midfield started to
drift forward leaving a large gap between them and their back four.
Staines
won a corner which was well-taken and a bit scary for Brooklands, but
they cleared their lines eventually. The next corner, however, led to
disaster as Andrew was called for pushing in the area. The penalty was
placed wide only for the ref to order a retake for encroachment into the
area. The re-kick was well-taken and Callum made a great save to his
left. Staines
got to the rebound first and the score was 3-1. Halftime.
The
Staines
half-time talk obviously worked as they came out far stronger after the
break. A good shot was well saved by Callum. Brooklands continued to
attack and some great shots from Michael, Dylan and Michael plus a
terrific volley from Harry P all of which either just missed or were
well saved by the Staines number one.
Andrew continued to put in some great corners without anyone able
to finish – Dylan got close with his head but
Staines packed
the box with blue shirts.
Then, from a break, Brooklands
were caught out. A shot and good save from Callum was met by the Staines
winger who struck it well first time under the diving body of Callum.
Was this going to be a repeat of last year’s fixture which Brooklands
took a three-nil lead only to draw 3-3? The pressure at both ends
continued but Brooklands seemed to have a slight edge. Some great
passing moves including a neat one-two between Ben and Andrew as well as
some fine tackling from Antonio,
Arran and Harry B kept the
spectators on the edge of their seats. The
Staines ‘keeper
doing a fine job in keeping the game close. More offsides (I’d lost
count by this time) denied Brooklands. At last, a break by Dylan,
well-saved by the ‘keeper but snapped up by Ben to put it into the back
of the net. 4-2 Brooklands with a few minutes to go. At last the away
supporters could relax.
The last few minutes were all
Brooklands – a great shot by Ben that drew an amazing save and a shot
from Callum S that was scrambled away. A good win against a team that
played hard until the end. Well done boys, a good all round performance
and a fun game to watch.

10 MEN 10 GOALS!
The first half was filled with excitement as the chances kept coming and
coming. We scored an early first goal scored by Dylan. Send began to
collapse as we had various chances at goal. After exquisite goalkeeping
from Johnny they scored a un-saveable goal. Send began to gain
confidence after they had loads of counter attacks, then scoring a
second, putting us 2-1 down. In the dying seconds of the first half, we
scored 2 quick goals with Josh and Dylan Crawford putting us in front
3-2. The whistle blew for half time.
After having plenty of Jaffa Cakes and a reshuffle at the back, the lads
were ready for the second half.
The second half began. The boys carried on putting the pressure on the
opposition whose defence let them down, allowing Dylan Crawford to add
to his tally eventually scoring four goals. Josh decided to join the
party and scored a further magnificent 3. The goals started flying in;
Andrew added to the score with a blistering run through the middle
passing all defenders and scoring and did a somersault to celebrate the
pin- point accuracy goal. Maybe everyone should do that. After scoring
several more, Andrew added another to the score line. By then Send were
deflated, having had a few chances themselves but the ball wouldn’t go
in the back of the net for them. An overall achievement for the lads as
everybody played to the full potential and everyone can only wonder will
it be 11-2 next week.
Well done lads.

4/10/09 League - Guildford
City Pumas 2 - 9 AFC Brooklands
1st half :
Early pressure from Brooklands, particularly from
Michael produced an early own goal
1 : 0 Brooklands.
Andrew's debut saw
some testing long balls, forcing their keeper to make some early saves.
A great cross from andrew saw Dylan C head one in 2:0 Brooklands
Solid defense from Arran and Harry B and
Brooklands were on the attack again, another corner from Andrew saw
Dylan C find the net again, 3 : 0.
A rare error from Zac gave Guildford an easy goal, 3 : 1.
Brooklands kept their
heads and another great through ball from Andrew put Dylan in for his
hat-trick ( 4 : 1).
Andrew then scored a brilliant solo effort from
long range. 5 : 1
Jonny went close then Guildford attacked and Arran
produced a goal saving clearance form the line.
Half time
a Team talk and 3 jaffa cakes later : -
Michael made his debut in goal and Zac was finally
allowed to how his terrier like ability in midfield, where he made some
robust challenges and combined well with Callum and Jonny or Mark.
The defense was solid with Dylan M and Antonio
making some great tackles and clearances. The counter attack produced a
throw in near the corner flag which ended with a graet finish from Jonny
6 : 1 Brooklands!! was Martin liking that......
Michael made a few good saves and Jonny put a great
ball through for Dylan to fight off 2 defenders to score again 7 :1.
Mark soon made it 8 :1 after some great team
passing.
Andrew was slightly too robust in his defense for
the ref and Guildford made the most of their penalty chance. 8 : 2.
Brooklands put their best efforts into scoring
again, with Ben having a couple of great runs, and a shot that only just
went wide. Andrew showed what pace a great long range shot can do to a
defence and was unlucky not to score.
Antonio managed 2 nutmegs in a row to pass to Mark
who passed to Andrew who just shot over the cross bar. Andrew took
a corner to set Dylan up to beat the keeper for his 5th Goal and
Brooklands were 9 :2.
Guildford didn't give up and Dylan M was very
robust in defence against a very good forward.
The Full time whistle went and Brooklands had not
only won convincingly but had all played their socks off. The incentive
might have been that Rob had offered to be soaked if the boys won by
more than 3 goals, and Steve C was looking at a long drive home
listening to the boys choice (Capital radio). Dylan C's piggy bank is
going to be fuller after this week's goalfest, and a very tough
decision, due to the fantastic play across the team resulted in him also
taking the MOM trophy home.
The new award of 'muppet of the week' went to Rob
for his rash promise to the boys, and a wet T shirt later, saw the team
head off looking forward to next weeks match.
Rob please pack spare T shirt for next week and can
all the superstitious players please go through the same routine before
next week's game.
Squad: Zac, Antonio, Arran, Dylan M, Harry,
Jonny, Mark, Michael, Ben, Callum S, Dylan C, Andrew.

27/09/09 League - AFC
Brooklands 1 - 7 Feltham Reds
Before the match, we parents were standing on the
sidelines commenting on how the boys seemed a bit more perky than usual
this week. We hoped this would make a change from the sleepy start that
can often see us chasing the match from early on. Unfortunately it was
not to be! The action was quickly in our half, and Zach was soon busy
producing 2 good saves very quickly. We could not seem to move play out
of our half, except for a brief foray up the field, ending in a very
near miss by Arran. Feltham, who seemed to be more organised on
the pitch, soon had play back in our half, and scored from a free kick
which was beautifully placed over Zach’s head. Zach did well to get a
hand to it, but in the end there was not much he could do.
Brooklands picked themselves up and took the action back to Feltham, but
were unable to make the best of their chances. Martin advised less
Strictly Come Dancing fancy footwork, although the Strictly fans among
the spectators wondered if some dance training might not help them keep
their formation. Hypnotism by Derren Brown was another suggestion. While
this was being discussed, Feltham made a break to score another goal
from a very good cross. Brooklands kept trying, but in their eagerness
were caught off side a couple of times. Feltham missed two chances, but
inevitably made sure of their third attempt and headed the ball in from
a cross to make it 3-0 just on half time.
Despite a brisk half time team talk, Brooklands’ thoughts still seemed
to be elsewhere and Feltham quickly made it 4-0. However, this seemed to
wake Brooklands up a bit, and they began to play with much more energy.
Josh made two good runs, although on the first he forgot to cross, and
on the second he remembered to cross, but there was no-one to follow up
on it. Feltham made a break which they converted into another goal, but
Brooklands fought back, with some good passing finally leading to
Michael placing the ball firmly in the net to make it 5-1.
But sadly after that brief spell, we seemed to go back to sleep,
resulting in – you’ve guessed it – another easy goal for Feltham.
Brooklands did rally slightly to produce another chance, when Arran got
on the end of a cross from Johnny, but Feltham’s goalie collected it up
safely. Just to finish off, Feltham aimed another over Zach’s head
making the final score 7-1 to Feltham Reds.
Sadly this week we were too slow to the ball and
not quite with it against a good team who were organised with their
passing and who were constantly talking to each other. We had flashes
where we showed what we could do, but these weren’t prolonged enough
against a team who were much sharper than us today. The boys will have a
lot to think about after today and will have to figure out what they
need to do. But whether the answer is Strictly dance training, Derren
Brown hypnotism or just double jaffa cakes at half time, we’ll all be
back next week to have another go.

League -
Farncombe Dynamos 1 -0
AFC Brooklands
“Shoot somebody!” “Shoot
somebody!” shouted one of the crowd. Personally, I thought it was a bit
harsh even though we were 1-0 down; still not reason enough to take out
one of their under 12 players!
AFC Brooklands played with
guts and passion in a tight away game against Farncombe. Beaten both
home and away by Brooklands last season . Farncombe have improved and
put up a sturdy fight. With a giant no.5 cleaning up at the back.
Brooklands, with a
new temporary goalkeeper in the form of Jonny Westlake, our cultured
midfield player, contested well in the first half. It was pleasing to
see quality tackling with a strong desire to win the ball cleanly.
Steve, assisting
Martin stated that the back four of Joseph, Antonio, Callum and Harry
had performed admirably.
The first half was
close but Brooklands were beginning to create opportunities led by a
strong midfield of Arran, Josh, ( replaced by Callum Simpson)
Dylan, Mark and nippy winger Ben.
Up front Michael was trying
to make those breakaway runs which he perfected last season but the ball
would not break cleanly.
At half time the
players were offered Jaffa cakes on the basis of a certain win by
Martin; inducements well within the F.A guidelines!
A tight second half with both
sides having limited opportunities and no one taking control opened up
with a diagonal slide through pass and Farncombe had two players
pressurising our goal. A well taken shot and Farncombe were 1-0 up.
Only a few minutes remained
but Brooklands immediately pushed on , showed character and from
the restart Josh hit the Farncombe crossbar. The ball came down and the
quick shot skewed just past their post.
A draw would have been a fair
result but some positives were taken from the slimmest of defeats.
Brooklands played like a team with character and future results will
show this.
Callum Purtill was
voted man of the match for Brooklands and Michael Owen who doesn’t
play for Brooklands received many hurrahs on the A3 return journey home.

League - AFC Brooklands 4 - 5 Epsom &
EwellThe first game of the season was an encounter with a
very physical and well organised team we had never played before and
what an explosive game it turned out to be full of ups and downs and
turnarounds. We deserved at least a point for our determination and hard
work that saw us equalise 4 - 4 with only seconds to go until the
whistle blew for full-time. Unfortunately our poor start in the first
five minutes of the game saw us concede 2 sloppy goals with a further
one being added five minutes later. Our lack of concentration and bad
defending meant we had a mountain to climb. But we pulled ourselves
together with our fighting spirit that came in the form of an explosive
run from the half way line by Michael Mottram who then crossed the ball
into the path of Callum Simpsom who blasted the ball into the top corner
of the net. Our comeback had begun when the whistle blew for halftime.
After a positive talk from the coaches we came out
fighting and battling with Arran Standring our Captain spurring us on as
we put pressure on the opposition. Our defending had improved with Zac
making a good few saves and Dylan McGuiness clearing the ball. Our new
player Harry Parkes hit the post once and had a couple of good chances
to score as we pushed up. Epsom & Ewell came back at us and
unfortunately managed to score another goal. This did not deter us as
our perseverance paid off as Dylan Crawford battled through into their
half only to be brought down not once but twice. Both penalties were
taken by John Westlake who did not buckle under the pressure and blasted
the ball with deadly accuracy into the net. Another goal came from the
Falcons before our second penalty from a cross by Dylan Crawford who had
an inspiring second half which was kicked in the net by Michael Mottram.
With only seconds of the game left we had managed to equalize 4 -4 and
had earned ourselves a draw but how cruel football can be within seconds
a long throw in by Epsom & Ewell into the penalty area reached one of
their players who managed to get the winning goal into the net. The
whistle then blew for full time.
Our boys can hold their heads up
high they battled on and never gave up the fight unfortunately their
poor performance in the first half lost us the match. We deserved at
least a point from this match, but hopefully we will learn from our
mistakes be more alert and focused right from the start and we will be
on the way to winning our matches.

6/9/09 Preseason - Egham
Saints 3 - 0 AFC Brooklands Falcons
The first game for the U12 Falcons this season
was a friendly against Egham Town Saints.
The Falcons started strongly and both teams were
well matched, but they conceded their first goal just nine minutes
in to play. After this set back, Brooklands lost their shape
and confidence but did make a good recovery towards the end of the
first half.
Sadly, despite strong defense from Dylan
McGuiness and great play from goal keeper Zac, luck wasn't with the
team as they conceded a further two goals early in the second half.
Several good runs involving the newly transferred Harry Parkes and
captain Arran Standring resulted in promising chances, but the
Falcons weren't able to take control of the game despite everyone's
best efforts.
Not a good result for their first game back, but
the score wasn't a fair reflection on how the boys performed and I
think we can expect better once the Falcons settle back in to
regular league games this season.
